Authentic Handmade Nepalese Kukri Knife - GK&CO. Kukri House
This 12-inch Survival Kukri/Khukuri is a product of GK&CO. Kukri House, the finest and largest manufacturer of traditional Nepalese Kukris. Crafted with time-honored precision in the heart of Nepal, this masterful blade is a testament to the enduring legacy of traditional hand craftsmanship.
The Survival Kukri is a versatile tool, commonly used in the Nepalese countryside for a variety of tasks such as woodcutting, clearing, chopping firewood, dividing perennials, slashing brush, digging, cutting meat and vegetables, skinning animals, and opening tins. As a sturdy and strong agricultural and household implement, it has been built to withstand a lot of work and overuse.
Painstakingly forged using only hand tools, the blade is meticulously shaped from resilient 5160 leaf spring steel, ensuring exceptional durability and edge retention. The 12-inch blade is made of high-graded carbon steel, with a thickness of approximately 3/8 inches or 10mm at the spine. The 6-inch dark rosewood full-tang handle not only adds a touch of natural elegance but also provides a comfortable and secure grip for effortless handling. The overall length of the Kukri is approximately 18 inches, and it weighs around 975 grams, including the black leather sheath.
The Angkhola or Village Kukri (Kukri) blade is off-shining and better suited for jungle use, with a shape and size similar to the standard issue. The high-polished, water-tempered blade is hand-forged by the Kami/Biswakarma castes, who are the traditional inheritors of the art of Kukri-making. This Nepalese masterpiece is handmade using the top-quality materials in a very traditional way, with predictable tools.
In addition to the Kukri, the set includes two small utility knives: the Karda, a small knife used for skinning animal hairs, and the Chakmak, used for sharpening the Kukri blade. These are unique knives that come with the Kukri, adding to its versatility.
To maintain the Kukri, it is recommended to apply machine oil, gun oil, or animal fat on the blade after each use, and to avoid leaving fingerprints on the blade. In case of rusting, it should be rubbed with fine sandpaper, cleaned with oil or gasoline, and wiped with a soft cloth before applying oil. The leather sheath can be cared for using shoe polish, while the utility knife blades can be polished with brass or silver polish.
Embodying the artistry and heritage of generations past, this Nepalese masterpiece from GK&CO. Kukri House is a faithful companion ready to serve a lifetime of adventures. Crafted with unwavering dedication and preserving the historical legacy of traditional Kukri-making, this authentic handmade Kukri knife is a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of Nepal.
